« Mont Saint-Michel : a place of reflection ».
By Leica Fotografie International.

It is one in the morning. Franck Courtel is working in Le Mont Saint-Michel, the world-famous monastery hill in the Gulf of St-Malo, France. He is alone with the howling wind. The ocean roars. Moonlight shimmers through the church windows, casting dramatic shadows. Something strirs in Courtel. He calls it “a presence, which must be respected”. History dwells in Saint-Michel. In 708 Bishop Aubert of Avranches has the church built out in the sea. Since then the monastery on the hill has grown to become one of Europe’s great abbeys. Franck Courtel wants to capture the historical presence together with nature, tranquility, hill and architecture.
